Residents of Sam Pot Lane, located off Windsor Road, St Catherine, were stunned by the killing of four persons in their community on Saturday night.
Those killed have been identified as Dwight McIntosh, 42; Odane Jackson, 35; Nicholas Hall, 17; and 16-year-old Tevin Cameron.
All those killed are of Windsor Road addresses, with the exception of Jackson, who resided in Lease Land, an adjacent community.
Reports from the police are that about 9 p.m., eight persons were gambling in a shop in the community when two cars drove up.
The occupants alighted with high-powered weapons and started firing.
All eight were shot. Cameron, McIntosh, Hall and Jackson died from their injuries.
Three others, including the owner of the shop, were hospitalised, while one was treated and released.
"I have been living here for all my life and never seen anything so brutal," said one resident. "I know that it is a very wicked act. The people killed are not troublemakers; it is just sad."
Other residents said the killings had shaken up the community.
"From last night, I have not even slept. It wicked pon we down here. A pure gunshot we a hear," said a relative of one of the deceased.
Investigators said they were trying to determine whether the shooting was connected to the earlier murder of Errol Ellison.
