It was an afternoon of season's greetings and good cheer all around at United States Ambassador Pamela Bridgewater's open house.

No stranger to the island, having served here over two decades ago, old acquaintances and some new ones were welcomed to her Paddington Terrace home.

Everyone was warmly greeted and the first stop on the tour was the 'red room'. The walls are adorned with magnificent works of art from Ghana, Benin and South Africa - a very close replica of a room she has at home. Bridgewater is an art lover and this is obvious. Works of art punctuate various walls, as well as photos of heads of state and former South African president, Nelson Mandela.

It was a light-hearted affair, a very good way to spend an afternoon with friends, neighbours and embassy staff.
