Having fully recovered from his participation at the late-season Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, where he helped himself to a silver medal in the shot put, national champion Dorian Scott is eyeing 2011 with great expectation.

Scott, who has a personal best of 21.45m in the event, has not thrown that distance in two years, but is looking to rediscover his best form ahead of this year's IAAF World Championships in Athletics, set for Daegu, South Korea.

"I want to throw a whole bunch of 21m throws this season," said Scott, whose best throw last season measured 20.55m. "Consistency is definitely something that I'll be looking to achieve this year so I'm definitely looking to throw in the 21m region this year and also 22m."

"I really want to do well this year and put out some big throws and then, most importantly, turn up and throw big at the big championships (IAAF World Championships)," said Scott, who is yet to win a medal at the championships.

"I'm very excited about this season because coming out of the Commonwealth Games last year I felt like that was the kind of catapult that I needed going into this season, and I'm really looking forward to better things," Scott pointed out.

National record holder

Scott, who is also the national record holder in the event, suffered a serious injury to his left Achilles tendon, which was torn at a meet in Sweden in 2009, an incident that forced him to miss the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Berlin, Germany.

The former Florida State University student reports that training has been going well for him and that he is much more comfortable about the status of his ankle.

"The Achilles now feels 100 per cent, it feels better than it has in years, so I'm very excited about what the season is going to be like this year," Scott stated. "I've been focusing on a lot of things in training; (I have been) doing a lot of jumps and bouncing, trying to get that timing and rhythm fully back. Last year I've been babying it (ankle), so to speak, because of the Achilles, so this year I'm putting everything out there.

"Training is going well, I'm fully recovered from the Commonwealth Games and I'm getting into some hard training right now. I won't be doing any indoor meets this year because I want to focus on the World Championships and going there in the best possible shape to do my best," he added.
