Westmoreland's Reno ended the Digicel Premier League on an encouraging note, having beaten Arnett Gardens 1-0 at Frome Sports Complex on Sunday, in a game which was only of academic importance.

The lone goal came in the third minute through Reno's consistent striker, Craig Foster, who put his name on the scorecard 15 times this season.

Before the Arnett team settled in the game, Gordon got the ball on the right side of the 18 yards box and dribbled to the left to elude two defenders, before releasing a cannon-ball shot which Damion Hyatt in the Arnett goal could not handle.

The ball bounced off the far upright and settled in the goal, much to the excitement of the small, but supportive crowd.

Hyatt did not finish the game as, five minutes before the final whistle, he was shown the red card, following a dangerous tackle on Foster in a 50-50 challenge. During the incident, the goalie suffered an injury which rendered him unfit to continue, even if he had not been shown the card in a game that had been largely exciting and entertaining.

'up and down'

Paul 'Tegat' Davis, coach of Arnett ,summed up the season as being "up and down" for his team, saying the management staff will now have to decide what steps are to be taken to have "a better showing" for Arnett next season.

Michael 'Jim Dandy' Graham, the assistant coach of Reno, says much more could have been done on the part of Reno, whose aim was to be in the top four to avoid the tough challenges at the end.

"The bottom six means that the league gets tougher, but I think we did well because we won three out of the five games."

Graham also said his management staff will now have to analyse the performance of the team over the season and do the necessary adjustments in all areas to ensure a better showing next season.
