Pulse kicks off its Caribbean Model Search 2012 this week as it looks for its signature 'Jamaican Supermodel' in high schools and universities islandwide.

Last year, Pulse commenced its schools search, visiting more than 25 schools in parishes including Clarendon, St Elizabeth, St Catherine, St Thomas, Westmoreland, St Mary, and Kingston and St Andrew.

This year, the search will be intensified and expanded as Pulse scouts travel to four times the number of schools, colleges and cities covered last year.

Successes from the schools search in 2011 included Ashawni Stewart of Petersfield High (first runner-up to Male Face of Jamaica Adam Fernandez, himself a student of the University College of the Caribbean), and Collene Mills, a student of Clarendon College (second runner-up to Fashion Model winner Fiona Davis).

High school source

Jamaica's high schools have always been a source of top modelling talent, including Pulse superstars Jaunel McKenzie (Excelsior), Lois Samuels (Hampton), Justine Willoughby (St Andrew High), Kimberley Mais-Issa (Campion), Romae Gordon (Alpha Academy), Nikki Vassell (Campion), Parisa Fitz-Henley (St Andrew High), Alexia Palmer (Dunoon) and Gaye McDonald (Holy Childhood).

Today, meaningful career opportunities have become even more limited to Jamaica's talented students. Pulse Investments Limited, through the Caribbean Model Search, has over the past 32 years recruited and created viable career options for young women and men through modelling.

Pulse's Caribbean Model Search (CMS), staged annually since 1982, has brought Jamaicans from all across the island. The search went Caribbeanwide in 2002.

Titles vied for

Contestants vie for four titles - The Jamaica Fashion Model, Petite Jamaica Fashion Model, Male Face of Jamaica, and Full-Figured Fashion Model.

CMS appeals to hundreds of thousands of young people locally and regionally, who aspire to be models. Their ambitions are fuelled and inspired by the success of Pulse stars internationally, including Jeneil Williams, Kimberley Mais, Lois Samuels, Jaunel McKenzie, Nell Robinson, Carla Campbell, Sedene Blake, Kimanee Wilson, Lincoln Wynter, Althea Laing, Alexia Palmer and Oraine Barrett.

Pulse's schools search 2012 is part of the wider Caribbean Model search in Jamaica and the Caribbean, and young men and young women who wish to be models are still welcome to call 960-0049 or visit Pulse, 38a Trafalgar Road, Kingston 10. Auditions will take place on Wednesdays between 4:15 p.m. and 5 p.m. weekly.
