Kingston Wharves berth damaged by container vessel

Berthing operations at Berth 3 at Kingston Wharves Limited (KWL) has been suspended following damage caused to the berth by the MSC Brianna last Thursday.

At approximately 5 p.m., the MSC Brianna, a container vessel, collided with the pier at Berth 3 KWL causing damage to the sheet piles and a major collapse of a section of the apron. No injuries were recorded.

Berthing operations are being accommodated at the other eight berths of the terminal. Normal operations at other areas of the terminal were not impacted by the accident. Investigations are being conducted by representatives from the Port Authority of Jamaica, Maritime Authority of Jamaica and KWL.
