Time to accept the gift of change
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Oftentimes, there are issues in the media surrounding Jamaica being a Christian country. Sometimes, the mention of us having the most churches per square mile becomes almost a mockery. This as we boast a very high crime rate and are grappling with a host of other social ills.
On the other hand, we are quicker to call for prayer when faced with a crisis than any other country I know. We incorporate prayer in almost all civic services. We have yearly prayer breakfasts, and even our national anthem is a prayer.
In light of these facts, I ponder over these questions: How then are we so immoral? Why are things so hard in Jamaica? Does God really care for us?
Yes, we are undeniably among the most prayerful nations, and God answers prayer. However, God requires more from us than prayer in our times of need. He also said we are to turn from our wicked ways (2 Chronicles 7:14).
As a nation, most of us recognise God as being able to deliver us in time of crisis, but after that, we remain the same. We fail to head in a different direction. Hence, the lack of evidence in our society of God's awesomeness.
We are in our year of jubilee. I, therefore, implore us to give ourselves the gift of change. This plea I make to all Jamaicans who care for a better Jamaica.
With this change, I guarantee you that we will see a turnaround in all areas of our lives and society. God is true to his word.
