As the countdown continues to the September 28 staging of Miss Global International 2013, Montego Bay's Sunset Beach Resort, Spa and Waterpark have laid the red carpet to stage the ninth anniversary of the event.

The Lachu Ramchandani event has also attracted a new investor - headline sponsors, the Commonwealth Group out of Canada.

Speaking at the event's official launch at Sunset in Montego Freeport on Tuesday night, Ramchandani announced that 35 contestants - from as far as Australia, Syria, China, Singapore, Namibia and Ethiopia - will be competing for the 2013 crown.

The pageant organiser, who has earned the title, 'Pageant King', revealed that another five were on standby. "It would seem as if we will have the largest turnout of contestants in 2013," he boasted, adding that Canada has already been confirmed to host the event in its 10th year, in 2014.

However, for 2013, a fabulous package has been placed on the table by the management of Sunset Beach Resort and Spa. The hotel is encouraging persons attending the event to make it a weekend getaway at US$75.00 per person.

There is also a special rate for guests who wish to attend the coronation only on the 28th.

According to the resort's General Manager Evatt Bloomfield, "Sunset will rise to the occasion," he promised, noting that he and his team were prepared to go the extra mile in ensuring the growth of the tourism product.

The contestants are expected to arrive in the country by Monday, September 23, and tour several attractions, while visiting other sponsors, such as RIU Montego Bay.

On Friday, the 27th, the contestants will showcase their talent at the Sunset resort, rounding off the competition at the coronation the following night.

If the A.J. Brown performance teaser that persons experienced at the launch was anything to go by, the coronation should be the talk of the western city.
