'Jamaica Smiles' - Dental team treats scores of children in St Catherine

Spanish Town, St Catherine:There were many smiling young faces at the Sligoville Health Centre in St Catherine last week, after they received total dental care from a team of paediatric dentists from Nova Southeastern University in Florida and the University of Technology (UTech) Medical Dentistry Department.
The team, that worked under the theme 'Jamaica Smiles', did extractions, cleanings, fillings and other treatments.
"We have seen about 60 students from different schools throughout the community and it is a great feeling to see them leave satisfied," said Dr Ajay Joshi of Nova Southeastern.
"We are also well assisted by the fourth-year students from UTech. It made us feel welcome,'' Joshi added.
He said seven students and two faculty members from Nova Southeastern made the trip.
Spanish Town mayor, Norman Scott, welcomed the visit of the group and expressed hope that it would be a continuous exercise.
''I take great pleasure in having the group of professionals giving great service to the Sligoville community, and St Catherine in general," said Scott.
"It is a great feeling, and we are thankful, as some of these children are from poor backgrounds and need all the help they can get.''
His views were echoed by a number of the residents who turned up at the health centre.
