Yesterday, the Caribbean's leading sports television broadcaster, SportsMax, announced that its audience would expand by almost eight times as it had joined forces with CDN-TV (Cadena de Noticias), to launch CDN-SportsMax in the Dominican Republic, the first indigenous 24-hour sports channel in the country. Filled with baseball and football coverage, CDN-SportsMax will be broadcast in Spanish and available to the estimated 2.8 million TV households in the Dominican Republic both over-the-air as well as via cable television. This further cements SportsMax's position in the region, now reaching 28 countries and broadcasting into 3.2 million households around the region.

CDN-SportsMax will feature live action from this season's Winter Baseball league in the Dominican Republic that includes stars from Major League Baseball in the USA as well as players from the Dominican Republic. CDN-SportsMax's coverage of the winter baseball league kicks off on Tuesday, October 22 with Tigres de Licey, the oldest and most successful club. Also, the Channel will feature games from the West Coast of Major League Baseball in 2014 and 2015.

FANS IN FOR A TREAT

Football fans in the Dominican Republic are in for a treat as CDN-SportsMax will broadcast more than 150 live matches from the Barclays Premier League (BPL) with live coverage kicking off on October 19 with five matches. UEFA Champions League will also feature on CDN-SportsMax from the Group Stage all the way through to this season's UEFA Champions League Final in May 2014. Two powerhouse matchups, Barcelona v AC Milan and Real Madrid v Juventus, kick off CDN-SportsMax's coverage on Tuesday, October 22.

"Across our TV, newspapers and radio platforms, Multimedios del Caribe for years has provided the Dominican Republic with quality news, sports and entertainment content. Dominicans are extremely passionate about sports and this partnership with SportsMax allows us to bring the best in international and local sports in our own Caribbean and Dominican way," stated CDN's Vice-President Manuel Estrella. "With SportsMax's leading position in the sports television market in the region, CDN is certain that this new channel is destined for success."

The start-up of CDN-SportsMax in the Dominican Republic was cemented through the relationship that SportsMax and CDN have with Eduardo Borges from MP&Silva.

Olly McIntosh, president and CEO of SportsMax, explains, "SportsMax & CDN are the perfect partners to bring the best sporting content to the Dominican Republic. CDN has proven itself as the leading media company in the country and the amazing synergies between us makes this partnership work well for the Dominican sports loving audience."
