Earth Day Competition now open to students

The Natural History Museum of Jamaica (NHMJ) is inviting entries for the 2014 Earth Day Competition. The competition is open to all secondary school students within grades 7-13. Students are asked to submit individual entries to the Literary Arts, Poster, and Photography categories. Each school is also invited to submit a group entry for the Performing Arts category.

The theme for the 2014 competition is "Conserving Land for Food Security", as this year has been designated as the International Year of Family Farming by the United Nations. The deadline for submission of entries is Friday, March 7. Judging will be done subsequently, and the winners will be announced at the annual Earth Day Competition awards ceremony on Tuesday, April 22.

Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 each year, and aims to promote the preservation of the Earth's natural resources. The NHMJ has always been an active participant in this global event, as we continue to encourage the preservation of Jamaica's natural heritage.

It is hoped that this year's theme will stimulate awareness and result in greater appreciation for the land as our ultimate food source, as well as encourage wise land use.
