The 18-hole championship-ready Half Moon Golf and Country Club is a jewel among many in Montego Bay and will take centrestage once more when it commemorates its 50th anniversary with a charity golf tournament today.

The event is scheduled for tee-off at 9:30 a.m. and will see 20 teams vying for the Half Moon 50th anniversary trophy, two return tickets for travel from Kingston to London courtesy of British Airways, a catamaran cruise for two from Island Routes, a golf cart from Tropicars, and several weekend stays, dinners, and spa treatments from Half Moon.

All monetary proceeds will go towards purchasing a well-needed ventilator for the Cornwall Regional Hospital, which serves the four parishes in the county of Cornwall.

"At Half Moon, we believe we are only as successful as the community in which we operate," said Aram Zerunian, general manager.

"The Cornwall Regional Hospital provides service to hundreds of persons daily, and this one ventilator can go a far way and save the lives of many. We really appreciate all our partners who've joined us for this initiative," he said.

Half Moon has been host to a number of high-quality tournaments, starting with the Jamaica Open first in 1975, then in 1990 and 1991. The Open found a new home but returned to its original stomping ground when the world-famous golf course again played host from 2006 onwards.

PGA home

The Celebrity Players Tour Jamaica Classic was also a feature at Half Moon from 2003-2005 when the European PGA Seniors tournament made the golf club its home for two years, 2003-2004.

Besides Half Moon, other sponsors include British Airways, J. Wray & Nephew, LIME, Caribbean Producers Jamaica Limited, Jamaica Tourist Board, Wisynco, Jamaica Golf Association, Jamaica Tours Limited, Bank of Nova Scotia, Island Routes, Tropicars, PepsiCo and Vail Resorts.
