Ridiculous blackout by LIME, Digicel
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I buy a two-day 500-megabyte data plan from my mobile telephone provider. This is a service I am paying for, which should allow me to browse whatever content I want, download what I want, and certainly use whatever applications I want.
The revelation that both telecoms providers are now restricting access to services that are available on the Internet is shocking. The restricting of the VoIP apps (calling applications) is unheard of in every other country and the excuse given by one telecoms provider that the apps put pressure on its networks is ridiculous.
The simple truth is that they are blocking these apps because they are a cheaper alternatives to its calling rates. You know how the old saying goes - if you can't beat them, BAN them.
