This home has a special synergistic relationship with the seashore on which it sits directly – each enhancing the other.

The free-flowing, single-level structure, roofed with several individual, pyramid-shaped shingle peaks, is configured so that the indoors and outdoors open unabashedly to each other. Doors open wide, and large picture windows sandwiched between Louvre blade frames offer unbroken views of the sea, while flooding the home with abundant natural light and fresh coastal air.

A courtyard at the front invites you into a secure, enclosed garden setting, before entering through the home’s front door.

We count a total of three bedrooms, with a fourth bedroom in a separate cottage. All have luxurious marble-finished en suite bathrooms.

A generously sized living space and dining area, which includes a bar, leads out effortlessly to grand entertainment and dining verandahs, as well as to a tree-shaded terrace for al fresco dining. The kitchen is served by its own organic garden.

Internally, rooms that are painted in white, such as the bedrooms, are punctuated with strong colours in framed artworks. Custom-made furniture can’t escape your admiration, and music through an audio system follows you wherever you step.

Right by the seaside is an asymmetrical freshwater swimming pool within a well-kept garden setting. The native grass grown here helps control soil erosion. A private beach and a jetty complement the picture. A barbeque area is also integrated with the other amenities. The external walls are white to reflect much of the sun’s rays, thus keeping the inside more inherently comfortable.

You just can’t stop looking at the water while you are here in western Jamaica. Dr Richard Shuster, a noted clinical psychologist, notes that a vast body of water puts one into a mild meditative state. For its architecture and entrancing location that casts a spell on us, we enthusiastically add this dwelling to the Dream House series. Next week, the search continues relentlessly.
