57-y-o Linstead man with 28 convictions pleads guilty to simple larceny, remanded for sentencing

A 57-year-old St Catherine man who has a long criminal history, including 28 convictions, today pleaded guilty to stealing items from a house.

Lorenzo Edwards, who is of a Linstead address, was answering to a charge of simple larceny.

His long criminal history was revealed in court, which heard that he had previously admitted to a slew of offences, including theft, drugs and wounding, and that he had admitted at the time that he had a drug problem.

Acting Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle said his history represents an offender who continued a criminal lifestyle.

She remarked that if he were before the Circuit Court, and not the Parish Court, a lengthier sentence would be possible for the offence of simple larceny.

“You need to be in the Circuit Court where you can get up to 10 years’ imprisonment,” the judge said.

The judge then remanded Edwards for sentencing on October 2.

Edwards was charged in May this year with simple larceny after he stole a quantity of items from the complainant’s home.
