KPH nurses protesting

Nurses at the Kingston Public Hospital are protesting the alleged early morning attack on one of their colleagues by a man said to be mentally ill.

A meeting is now underway involving the president of the Nurses Association of Jamaica, Janet Farr and the leadership of the hospital.

It’s reported that about two o’clock this morning the mentally-ill patient grabbed a nurse and attempted to choke her.

The patient has since been transferred to another facility.

Cash-strapped regional airline, LIAT, yesterday described as “speculation” media reports that it was planning to trim its work force by sending home close to 200 employees.

LIAT Communications Manager Desmond Brown said any staff cuts that required in the future will only be made in consultation with staff and their representatives.

He says that process has not started yet and any reports about the number of cuts are based on speculation.
