Work to resume on Jamaica’s Mount Rosser bypass

The Government said work will resume shortly on the Mount Rosser leg of the Highway 2000 project.

More 200 workers have been sent home because of the suspension of the project as the Government seeks to finalise the further funding.

However, the Minister of Transport and Works, Mike Henry, said work could resume in about a week.

He said the temporary suspension is not expected to delay the completion of the project, which is slated to be ready by early next year.

The project is now about 70 per cent complete.

Meanwhile, Mr Henry said it will not be necessary for him to meet with the over 200 workers who are being affected by the suspension of the project.

The National Workers Union wrote to him following news of the suspension seeking an urgent meeting as to when work will resume.

The Cabinet is expected to discuss the issue on Monday.
