Attorney-at-law, Robert Corbin, has been re-elected to head the main opposition Peoples National Congress in Guyana, after a bruising election contest.
Mr Corbin won 614 votes to easily defeat his only rival Winston Murray, who polled 223 ballots.
The contest was marred by allegations of voting irregularities.
Mr Murray, a former party chairman, said the margin of victory was so great that even if the allegations of fraud had been addressed, Mr Corbin would still have won.
Mr Corbin says his priority is to unify the party.
