The Opposition has welcomed the proposed changes to the Labour Relations and Industrial Dispute Act.

The spokesman on labour, Derrick Kellier says he is particularly pleased that non-unionised employees may now take their cases to the Industrial Disputes Tribunal (IDT).

However he says the labour ministry must ensure that the proper structures are implemented to facilitate the proposed changes to the act.

The Bill for the amendments to the Labour Relations and Industrial Dispute Act was passed in the lower house without amendments.

It will now go to the Senate for its approval before becoming law.
