Annual conference begins for NAJ
The island’s nurses converge in Ocho Rios, St. Ann today for the start of the NAJ’s three-day annual conference.
It’s expected that the issue of the reclassification exercise and the working conditions of nurses will be among the main agenda items.
The highlight of today’s session will be the NAJ’s annual general meeting, and the announcement of the results of the elections for executive members.
Edith Allwood-Anderson who has served as the president of the NAJ for the last four years is vying for another term in office.
Last year, the NAJ’s constitution was amended to allow Mrs Allwood Anderson to serve beyond the three-year limit.
Mrs. Allwood-Anderson who is the matron at the Kingston Public Hospital is one of five candidates contending for the post.
The others are Sharon Brown-Brotherton from the KPH, Nadine Anderson-Lawrence from the Victoria Jubilee Hospital, Colmalee Chambers, Annotto Bay Hospital and Novelette Robinson from the Bustamante Hospital for Children.
The conference ends on Saturday with the association’s installation banquet.
In the meantime Mrs Allwood Anderson is confident that she will be returned at the NAJ president.
