Strata Titles act passed in Senate
The Registration Strata Titles Act was today passed in the Senate with 29 amendments.
In October the House of Representatives gave the bill the nod with 27 amendments.
During debate on the bill in the Upper House last week, Opposition Senator Mark Golding suggested a raft of recommendations to amend the bill.
Leader of Government Business in the Senate and Attorney General Dorothy Lightbourne had asked for more time for her department to examine the recommendations.
And this week, after lengthy and painstaking deliberations at the committee stage the Strata Registration Bill was accepted by the Senate.
Senator Lightbourne thanked Senator Golding for the useful proposals he made noting that most of them were accepted.
Leader of Opposition Business in the Senate A.J. Nicholson queried if the legislation was referred to a joint select committee for consideration.
The Bill seeks to amend the Registration Strata Titles Act to, among other things, establish a commission of strata corporations, to specify the duties of that commission and to create an implied covenant between a proprietor and a corporation.
