Update: Gun fight on Half- Way-Tree Road leaves four dead

Three people, including an alleged gunman, were killed along Grove Road, near Half Way Tree, in St Andrew today after a gun battle between gunmen and a licensed firearm holder.



According to a report from the Constabulary Communications Network gunmen went onto a public passenger vehicle shortly at 1:10 pm today and diverted it on to Grove Road. The gunmen proceeded to rob and abuse the passengers.



It’s reported that a passenger challenged the gunmen and exchanged gunfire with the criminals.



It’s reported that one of the gunmen was shot. He was taken to the hospital where he died. A fourth person, a child, was shot and is now in hospital undergoing treatment.



Two men and a woman were also killed during the incident.



As the shooting progressed police patrols arrived at the scene and the two remaining criminals started to make their escape.



The police say they pursued and eventually were able to intercept the criminals in the Kencot gully.



A shoot-out reportedly ensued and another of the criminals was shot and killed.



The police say two guns were seized.



They say the identities of the persons killed and injured are yet to be determined.



Today’s incident follows last night’s in which five men were shot and killed by gunmen in Portsmouth, St Catherine.



The St Catherine south police have identified a man known as “Don Topping” as a person of interest in the killing and have asked him to turn himself in to the Hundred Man police station by 8 o’clock tomorrow morning.



According to the St. Catherine South police, the victims were among a group of people playing dominoes along Milton close when about 10 gunmen drove up and opened fire.



They were taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where they were pronounced dead.



Forty 9-millimeter spent shells and 6 warheads were found at the scene.
