Jamaica closer to deciding on REDjet's fate

The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) is now closer to deciding on whether to approve the application for Barbados based carrier REDJet to fly to Jamaica, after Barbados submitted outstanding documents yesterday.
REDJet had announced plans to begin flying to Jamaica last month but later delayed its decision because of regulatory delays.
JCAA Director General, Lieutenant Colonel Oscar Derby said he received documents outlining details of the company’s ownership structure which is critical to the processing of the application.
He said, for approvals to be granted the JCAA must be satisfied that the airline is owned by a majority of citizens from the country in which it is based.
Colonel Derby said he is satisfied that the information provided by Barbados is correct.
However, he cannot disclose details of the airline’s ownership structure.
The JCAA head said he is now arranging a meeting with board members to examine the documents.
According to Colonel Derby, the matter should be finalized by early next week.
