Cop freed of murder rap

Police detective Rohan Blackwood was yesterday freed of murder in the Home Circuit Court.
Blackwood, who is a corporal was accused of shooting Dwight Brightley otherwise called "Computer" at a house in Olympic Gardens, Kingston 11 on January 6, 2001.
When the main witnesses took the stand yesterday, said he did not see in court any of the policemen who shot the deceased.
The crown later offered no further evidence against Corporal Blackwood and Justice Marjorie Cole Smith directed the jury to return a verdict of not guilty.
The police had reported that they went into Olympic Gardens in search of Brightly and another man to execute arrest warrants on them.
According to the police, while there shots were fired at them and one of the men ran into a house.
The police reported that when they went into the house, Brightly attacked them with a machete and was shot in self defence.
