Chairman of the All-Island Jamaica Cane Farmers Association, Allan Richards, is expressing optimism about the current sugar crop.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Richard Harrison of the Sugar Company of Jamaica said all factories are expected to be in full production by the end of January.

The government is expecting to produce 108,500 tons of sugar for the current crop, which will end in June.

Frome sugar factory in Westmoreland was the first to begin reaping cane on December 26 for the 2007/08 crop.

Last year, five divisions in the Sugar Company of Jamaica produced a total of 111,265 tons of sugar.
