Lamasa workers restive again
Porters and janitors employed to Lamasa Janitorial Services Limited are restive amid uncertainty about their jobs.
The company’s contract with the Government to provide services at the Bustamante Hospital for children and the Kingston Public and Victoria Jubilee hospitals comes to an end on Monday.
Some 400 Lamasa workers are assigned to those institutions.
The workers and their union, the National Workers Union (NWU), said they are concerned, as there has been no indication from the company regarding the settlement of outstanding wages and other benefits.
NWU President, Vincent Morrison, said the workers are frustrated at the situation and want the matter addressed.
Morrison said the union and the workers are incensed that a meeting which had been planned for yesterday at the Labour Ministry did not materialise because the management of the company did not turn up.
He said the labour ministry is now seeking to organise an urgent meeting.
