OUR Announces $1.10 Mobile termination Rate

The Office of Utilities regulation (OUR)has approved a mobile termination rate of $1.10 down from $5.00 paving the way for a sharp reduction in call rates in Jamaica.



In its determination seen by The Gleaner the OUR says:



"Although the model (it used) produced an MTR (mobile termination rate) that is increasing in each period, the Office is of the view that it would be simpler to have a single MTR over the review period.



"The calculated pure ... rate for 2017, which is the last reset period for the MTR, is $1.059 per minute. The Office therefore determines that the MTR for the applicable five year period is $1.10 per minute.

"This MTR of $1.10 becomes effective July 1, 2013 and will last until June 30, 2018 unless adjusted sooner on the basis of Section 33(3) of the (Telecommunications) Act. The MTR is to be charged on a per second basis."
