A fire at Caymanas Park this morning has rendered the North Lounge unsuitable for patrons ahead of the midweek eight-race card.

The North Lounge, also known as 'Glass House', is an air-conditioned betting lounge with a food court and bathroom facilities, which overlooks seating in the grandstand and reserve areas.

Racing secretary Denzil Miller said an assessment would be done.

He said the day's programme would go ahead as planned.

However, it is doubtful that the North Lounge, which an eye-witness said was badly affected by soot, would be opened to patrons this afternoon.

Reports are that an air-conditioning unit was the source of the fire.

The blaze was extinguished by the Jamaica Fire Brigade.
