ATHLETICS: Cunningham misses medal at Paralympic World Championships

Alphanso Cunningham came close to open Jamaica’s medal tally at the 2013 International Paralympic Committee Athletics World Championships in Lyons, France after a fourth place finish in the men’s discus final yesterday.



Cunningham had a season-best 26.38 metres for 963 points in the F52-53 category.



Mohamed Berrahal of Algeria won the gold medal with a world record effort of 13.16 metres for 1163 points.



Team captain Tanto Campbell also came close to a medal on Sunday.



Campbell recorded a personal-best throw of 41.71 metres but the effort placed him fourth in the F54-F56 Men’s Discus Throw Final.



Cuban Leonardo Diaz won the gold medal with a  world record throw of 453-2 metres.
