May Pen Mayor survives vote of no confidence
Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) councillors in the Clarendon Parish Council have failed to remove Chairman and Mayor of May Pen Scean Barnswell.
At a specially convened private meeting this morning the council heard a motion of no confidence by Councillor Winston Maragh.
Councillor Maragh argues that Barnswell’s action in the Spaldings Market affair has brought the Clarendon Parish Council into grave disrepute.
And according to Maragh, the Contractor General's report on the matter brought into question the veracity of the evidence given by council members.
It was on those grounds that the JLP Councillors said the Chairman was not fit to continue leading the parish council.
However, the motion was defeated in a vote of 10-3 in favour of Mayor Barnswell.
Barnswell said he is not fazed by the vote of no confidence and will continue to press ahead with the business of the Clarendon Parish Council.
Councillor Maragh says the minority JLP Councillors will meet to determine their next move.
