Immediately after, The Gleaner/Power News sought the reaction of the lawyers who represented the men.

I really do think that it is a harsh sentence especially in light of some of the evidence.

Like I said to the judge, he is a man that is known for reasonable sentencing but this was a little excessive certainly for Shawn Campbell.

Nevertheless, the jury has spoken, the judge has spoken and we now look forward to our Court of Appeal in a sober and quiet manner to look at all the evidence.

Shawn Campbell is confident that in the long run he’ll be vindicated.

I have spoken to both Shawn Campbell and Vybz Kartel.

Shawn says he would like to thank his fans and his family for their unbending support throughout and he is confident that he will be vindicated.

Vybz Kartel virtually says the same thing; he’s thanking his family and his fans.

He actually used the word "unremitting" support throughout, and he looks forward to one day being acquitted. He has made it clear to me that he did not kill Clive Williams nor did he order the death of Clive Williams.

As far as Adidja Palmer is concerned, we are not surprised about the sentence based on the posture of the judge at this stage. And, we did indeed advance certain mitigating factors which I think did play a part in the sentence. We will be appealing both conviction and sentence on instructions from our clients. Kartel has maintained his innocence, and that he’s interested in appealing his conviction.

I’d rather hold my space and think about my client’s position before I speak.
