Sprint hurdler Tyler Mason will be attempting to win Jamaica’s first medal at the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships in Eugene, USA when action resumes today.

The Jamaica College student will contest the men’s 110-metre final in the afternoon session.

Mason became the first Jamaican at the championships to qualify for a medal round after winning Heat 3 of the semi-finals on yesterday’s second day of action.

Mason won his 110-metre semi-final heat in 13.45 seconds to advance to the final with the joint third fastest qualifying time.

He will run from the Lane 6.

The other Jamaican – Marvin Williams clocked 13.70 in Heat 2 for fifth place and failed to qualify.

Ten other Jamaicans, including Jaheel Hyde and Tiffany James, will be in action on today’s third day.

Hyde, the top seed in the men’s 400-metre hurdles, and fellow Jamaican Okeen Williams will contest the semi-finals in the event.

Hyde, a World Youth gold medallist, booked his spot in the semi-finals following a 51.60 clocking for second place in Heat 6 yesterday.

He will run in Heat 2 of the semi-finals, while Williams will contest Heat 1.

James, a World Youth medallist, and fellow Jamaican Yanique McNeil will contest the women’s 400-metre semi-finals in the afternoon session.

Also in action today are Michael O'Hara and Jevaughn Minzie, who now turn their attentions to the 200 metres following their disappointments last night in the 100 metres.

Both athletes crashed out in the semi-final round of the men's 100 metres.

O'Hara and Minzie compete in the morning session today along with discus throwers Shadae Lawrence and Shanice Love, triple jumper Tamara Moncrieffe and 400-metre hurdler Genekee Leith.
