New framework for NEPA

The Office of the Prime Minister said the framework for a single National Planning and Environment Agency (NEPA) could be developed by year end.

The agency will be responsible for restructuring the process to approve development plans.

Prime Minister, Bruce Golding met with representatives of related government institutions and environment protection agencies on the matter.

A team has been established to review the discussions and report to Mr. Golding.

After receiving the report, Mr. Golding is expected to make a submission to the Cabinet proposing the establishment of the single national regulatory agency.

Mr. Golding is insisting that there are too many regulatory agencies involved in the approval of development.

The single national entity will be compelled to sign off on an approval plan within 90 days after its submitted.
