Peoples National Party (PNP), councillors in the Portmore Municipality won control of all six committees within the council.

Last week, the PNP councillors threatened legal action if the mayor decided to chair any of the council’s committee.

Mayor of Portmore Keith Hinds announced at the Council’s first meeting last week that the PNP could head four of six committees.

The PNP councillors took issue with Mr. Hinds’ decision and insisted that neither the mayor nor any other JLP councilor, could chair any of the committees.

However, the matter was resolved following a meeting with the councillors yesterday.

The PNP councillors, who have a majority of seven councillors to the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) four, are to chair and deputy chair the committees.

According to the Mr. Hinds he will be chairing a special committee, which is to be set up to oversee the operations of all the other committees.

Mr. Hinds also said it is up to the other councillors to ensure they participate in the various committees.
