Commissioner suspends detective for false statements
Police Commissioner, Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin has suspended the Montego Bay based detective constable, who admitted that he fabricated statements against a man on trial for murder.
Detective Carey Lyn-Shue, who is attached to the Area One Accident Reconstruction and Investigative Unit, made the admission when he appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrates Court (RMC) on Tuesday.
He was speaking during the preliminary enquiry against Jason James, 22, of the parish.
The policeman told the clerk of the courts that the statement he submitted and the crown witness were false.
The Police Commissioner has ordered that all statements provided by Detective Lyn-Shue as evidence, be immediately reviewed.
Admiral Lewin has also strongly condemned the action of the policeman.
He said this type of behaviour by police personnel would be dealt with in an expeditious and transparent manner.
