Letter of the Day | Being honoured for someone else's work

Published:Sunday | March 25, 2018 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I think it's an insult to the Jamaican people, who supported the building of Highway 2000, to see it named after a man who opposed it being built.

How disrespectful this must be to the people who fought night and day for the conception of this project, which made the lives of the Jamaican people way easier.

I firmly believe that former Prime Minister Edward Seaga does not deserve this honour. He made his point very clear that he will oppose the building of Highway 2000, but now Mr Seaga is to be honoured by the very thing he once despised, or maybe still does.

It's like a father telling a mother to abort her unborn child because he wants nothing to do with the child, but once the unwanted foetus becomes a reality and is successful, he wants all the credit and acknowledgement for the success of the very child he didn't support and opposed every step of the way.

It's a shame and an embarrassment for this honour to be bestowed on former Prime Minister Edward Seaga. The honour should be given to someone more deserving of it.
