Brace for chicken shortage amid ban on some imports - producers
Poultry producers are warning Jamaican consumers to brace for a shortage of chicken and poultry products following a ban on imports from North America.
The Veterinary Services Division of the Ministry of Agriculture has issued the ban on all poultry and poultry products from parts of the United States and other regions, arising from an outbreak of avian influenza or bird flu.
It is understood that the Agriculture Ministry plans to incinerate containers of poultry and poultry products emanating from those markets on arrival at the ports to protect the local industry.
