Scores of students returning to school in St Thomas following the holiday break were this morning left no choice but to walk after taxi operators in Port Morant mounted roadblocks to demonstrate against poor road conditions.
Huge trees were cut down rendering the main road impassable.
Speaking with The Gleaner/Power106 News Centre a man who identified himself as Delroy, and who plies the Port Morant route, said although he was not aware that the road would have been blocked, he's in full support of the actions of his colleagues.
A team from the Morant Bay Fire Department says it received a call about 6 o'clock this morning that the Port Morant Main road had been blocked.
However, they say they believe the trees were cut down from around 4 o’clock.
They have since been able to clear a side of the road allowing for single lane traffic.
