Reclaiming peace from the electronic world
In today’s digital age, our lives revolve about screens, signals, and switches. From the moment we wake up to the time we fall asleep, technology remains one of our closest companion.
We depend on it for work, entertainment, communication, and even relaxation. But what happens when all of it suddenly stops! It makes us pause and ask – are we in control, or have we allowed the digital world to control us?
PANIC WITHOUT POWER
Recent electricity cuts across the island have revealed something deeper than inconvenience – our dependency on the electronic world. The moment the lights go out or the Wi-Fi signal drops, many feel restless, anxious, and disconnected.
We reach for our phones out of habit, hoping for comfort in scrolling, but when that too fails, a strange emptiness creeps in. What used to be “free time” now feels like a void we don’t know how to fill. When gadgets go silent, can we sit quietly with ourselves? This question opens a powerful reflection on how much of our peace depends on things that can be switched off in a second.
SLAVES OF CONVENIENCE
In the name of progress, we have surrounded ourselves with countless conveniences – smartphones, lights, laptops, machines, and endless entertainment – yet we seem more restless than ever.
Our grandparents lived without these devices and still found joy in simple conversations, nature, and genuine rest. Today, we live more comfortably but with less contentment.
Electricity, which once served us, now seems to control our lives entirely. When power goes, patience goes with it. The same is true for mobile phones – what began as a tool to connect has become a source of constant distraction. We no longer follow the natural rhythm of day and night; instead, our artificial clocks run on deadlines, parties, and digital routines. The body loses its balance, the mind loses its calm, and relationships lose real connection.
RETURNING TO INNER POWER
There is nothing wrong with using the comforts science has given us, but we must remain masters, not slaves, of them. The real comfort is inner – when a power cut or a lost signal does not shake our peace. It is time to learn again how to be content without constant connection.
Let us use the modern tools wisely, but not let them use us. The more we depend on outer systems – cashless, cardless, wireless – the more we drift from our natural self-reliance and become peaceless.
Let us align again with nature’s clock, where our body rests at night, mind stays light, and relationships breathe presence rather than pixels. When our internal balance guides the external world, we regain our true power – the power to stay peaceful in all circumstances.
