WISDOM OF THE WEEK - Uplifting lies or damaging truth?

We are often taught that truth should always be accepted and prioritised. Honesty is indeed a great virtue. However, there is a difference between accepting a fact and becoming imprisoned by it. Many people hold on so tightly to painful truths that they unknowingly allow those truths to define their identity, limit their growth, and steal their peace.

A person may have faced failure, criticism, rejection, illness, or financial hardship. These experiences may be true, but should they become the permanent story of one's life? The deeper question is not whether something is true, but whether our relationship with that truth is helping us grow or keeping us stuck.

POWER OF REPETITION

Modern psychology and neuroscience have shown that the brain is constantly changing through a process known as neuroplasticity. Our repeated thoughts create pathways in the brain. The more we think a certain way, the stronger those pathways become.

If someone is struggling financially, it requires no effort to think, “I have no money.” If a person is criticised repeatedly, it becomes easy to think, “I am not good enough.” These thoughts may reflect present circumstances but, when repeated endlessly, they become patterns that shape emotions, decisions, and future actions.

Our mind is like fertile soil. It does not examine every seed before allowing it to grow. Whether the seed is fear, doubt, or confidence, it nurtures whatever is planted.

CHOOSE A BETTER INNER STORY

A person recovering from illness says, “I am getting healthier every day.” Or someone with low self-esteem tells themselves, “I am worthy and capable.” At first, these statements seem like lies, not matching our current emotions.

Yet, these are not lies meant to deceive. They are conscious choices to focus on possibilities rather than limitations. They create emotional strength, resilience, and a healthier mental state. These lies help reshape patterns and encourage constructive behaviour. What we repeatedly think today often becomes the reality we move toward tomorrow.

LIES BECOMING YOUR TRUTH

This does not mean that dishonesty is good or that reality should be ignored. Rather, it means we should not allow painful facts to become permanent identities. A person experiencing weakness today does not mean they are weak. Someone struggling now does not make struggling their destiny.

Growth begins when we learn to see ourselves not merely as we are at the moment, but as we potentially can be. When we affirm peace, strength, love, and self-worth every day, they become our reality.

The truth that damages your spirit should not become your home. Hold on instead to thoughts that uplift, empower, and transform. What begins as a hopeful possibility today becomes your living truth tomorrow.
