Elite adding ‘one of a kind’ scanner at Liguanea location
Elite Diagnostics Limited is adding a medical scanner at its Liguanea location.
The investment, aimed at growing revenue, comes amid a fall in net profit for the newly listed company which earned $1.2 million in its December 2017 quarter compared with $8.5 million a year earlier. The company operates locations in New Kingston and Liguanea.
"The 3T Magnetic Resonance Imaging machine is the only one of its kind in Jamaica," said CEO Warren Chung in statements accompanying the financials. The company financed the purchase with a loan, but did not disclose the cost.
With the new machine, Elite expects growth in revenues from the Liguanea branch starting this month.
The diagnostics company earned revenue of $71.85 million in the December quarter, an improvement of 25 per cent year-on-year. Increased demand for MRI and computerised axial tomography or CAT scans accounted for the rise. The Liguanea location, which opened in November 2017, contributed $2.5 million to revenue in the period.
