Gov’t will not renew existing JPS licence

Open bidding process for other energy providers. – @Worldbpa

This is the best thing I have heard in a long time. I know it is just an announcement but I applaud the GOJ for it. High energy bills have been a weapon formed against J’cans for too long. – @beemillmckie

I’ll be first in line to try the next company. – @Nassy_S

Free up the energy market, but JPS owns so much of the infrastructure though. It’s going to be tough, but at the very least open up the market, break this monopoly. – @IamMobstaz

Interesting times ahead. – @OfficiallyApril

So what does this mean in pragmatic terms. – @hanjru_

The light posts, wires and JPS facilities are government owned or JPS can take all that when they are leaving? Would all that go to the new investors if we get one? – @Boss_Emotions

Will believe that when I see it. –@gunnerbeeks

Then what if the people want to stick to the evil they know? – Anthony Campbell

Interesting times ahead. I wondered who negotiated the initial contract. The Jamaican people have been milked dry. We need a better energy solution. As an island in the tropics energy prices are way too high. Benefits to the investors are costly to the Jamaican ppl. Enough is enough. I trust we will have competent negotiators at the table this time around (from both sides of the floor). – Nophia Morgan

The word that stood out for me is (existing). This tells me that if there’s a better deal, the JPS will still be around. I think the best way forward is solar panels, we have an abundance of sunshine, so why not? – Derrick L. Green

Congratulations to the people of Jamaica. We need a better deal that benefits the people of Jamaica. – Rashema Boyde

Lol. Would be the best thing happen in Jamaica. Give the Chinese dem. – Djdadz Teamunqiue

So how you serve notice before you negotiate with others. Suppose JPS plug out wi socket and cut, wah we do, go back to kerosene lamp and battery? BTW, is not JPS alone flawed. – Farmer Ray

Bring on a Nigerian company. Let’s tie in training for our current college engineers. We must become leaders in this area ... in 50 years? – Joan Lloyd
