Two charged after allegedly expelling 139 capsules containing cocaine
A man and a woman who allegedly expelled a total of 139 capsules containing cocaine valued at $2.6 million have been arrested on drug charges.
They are Miriam Thompson, 58, higgler of Norwood, in St James and Edson Berry, 56, construction worker, of Portmore in St. Catherine.
The Narcotics Police say they have been charged with importing, possession of and dealing in cocaine.
Thompson and Berry are scheduled to appear in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court next Wednesday.
According to the police, the two arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport around 4 a.m. last Sunday on a flight from Guyana.
The police say they were screened during routine checks and subsequently taken to hospital where Berry expelled 68 homemade capsules weighting approximately 2 pounds while Thompson expelled 71 capsules weighting approximately 2.1 pounds, all containing cocaine.
