There is now a fire at the Riverton City dump in St Andrew.

Speaking on RJR News Executive Director of the National Solid Waste Management Authority Audley Gordon said that the wind is posing a challenge but that the fire is contained to a defined location.

Gordon said three fire units are helping to put out the blaze.

He said that he expects the fire to be extinguished in about two hours, adding that he has not received reports of smoke affecting traffic in the area.

According to Gordon, spontaneous combustion is suspected to be the cause of the fire.
