Examinations will now commence on May 23. Results will be released between late August and early September.

Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) exams have been delayed by three weeks.

Jamaica's education ministry had been appealing to CXC from as early as January for a postponement of the regional examinations.

CXC administers the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) and Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations.

At a press conference a short while ago, CXC registrar Dr Wayne Wesley said the decision was made during a special joint meeting of the School Examinations Committee (SEC) and the Council this morning.

Examinations will now commence on May 23.

Results will be released between late August and early September.

Additionally, teachers have been given two more weeks to submit grades for Student Based Assessments to CXC.
