Case postponed after wrong accused brought to court
A foul-up which resulted in the wrong man being brought to court to answer to larceny charges forced an adjournment of the matter in the St Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday.
The police were given until February 6 to present the correct Kevin Brown, who is the defendant in the case.
On Tuesday, a man with a similar name appeared in court to answer to the charge of larceny of a motor car.
After the allegations were outlined by the clerk of courts, Brown, who is in custody on a sexual offence charge, declared that he was very surprised.
"Your honour this is the wrong person. I am Kevin Anthony Brown and I have been in custody since November 2022, almost 14 months now," Brown said.
The judge acknowledged the foul-up and the police then assured that the correct accused would be in court on the next date.
The allegations in the case are that on October 22, 2023, the complainant rented her car to a client.
The person failed to return the car and a police report was made.
A man who gave his name as Kevin Brown was held with the vehicle in St Catherine after he reportedly modified it and attempted to sell it to a policeman.
Brown was arrested and charged.
