Sangster International Airport (SIA) recorded 5,267,820 total passengers in 2023, surpassing 2022 by 19.6 per cent.

The figure is also 500,000 more passengers than for 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.

MBJ Airports Limited, which operates the facility, says the traffic for December 2023 outperformed 2022 by 13 per cent with 500,000 passengers using SIA for the month.

It's anticipating that the 2023/2024 winter season will continue on a similar trajectory with high passenger traffic volume throughout the terminal and airport for January to March.

To alleviate congestion and reduce queues and waiting times on departures, MBJ Airports Limited is urging its partners to encourage guests to check in online and print boarding passes before arriving at the airport.

Passengers with a mobile boarding pass and no checked bag should proceed directly to the security checkpoint, while passengers with a bag will proceed to their airline to drop their bags.

The airport's operator is also urging partners, such as hotels and tour operators, to make transportation arrangements for passengers to be at the airport with additional time to enter the airport and check in.

It says failure to comply may result in flight delays and a high possibility of passengers missing their flights.
