Man fatally shot by police in Old Harbour Bay

An unidentified man who allegedly challenged members of a police party in Old Harbour Bay, St Catherine, was fatally shot and an illegal gun reportedly seized from him.

Reports are that about 3:40 a.m. Friday police personnel went to Terminal Road in Old Harbour Bay and were challenged by the man who was armed with a gun.

The police reportedly took evasive action and fired hitting the suspect.

The police say an illegal Hi Point .380 pistol affixed with a magazine containing seven rounds of ammunition was seized.

The injured man was assisted to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe into the matter.
