Marks 'excited' to serve in the Senate
Newly-appointed Government Senator Audrey Marks says she is “excited” to serve in the Jamaican legislature.
She was speaking in the Senate on Friday after taking the Oath of Allegiance.
“Ready to go,” Marks said.
Her appointment was announced on Thursday by Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness.
Marks, who previously served as Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States, said Jamaica is now at a pivotal point.
“A strong foundation has been laid and now as we pivot for growth, it’s a time that I’m excited to join you, looking at how we support an infrastructure of legislation to drive growth and drive our economy forward,” she said.
“I hope to use all that I’ve learnt over the years, all my experience to serve in this chamber,” Marks added.
Leader of Opposition Business in the Senate Peter Bunting said he expects that Marks will bring a level of decorum to the business of the Senate.
The full complement of senators on the Government benches in the Upper House is now in place with Marks taking the Oath of Allegiance on Friday.
