Man fatally shot by police in St Andrew

A man was fatally shot today, reportedly by police assigned to the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch during an operation at a house on Lothian Avenue in St Andrew.

According to reports, the incident occurred around noon while the police team carried out an operation at 26 Lothian Avenue in Cockburn Gardens.

While searching the area, a man allegedly opened fire, prompting the police to return fire.

After the exchange of gunfire, the unidentified man was found with gunshot wounds. He was transported to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Independent Commission of Investigations is now probing the incident.

As of March 25, Jamaica has recorded a total of 78 police fatal shootings this year.

The months of January and February each accounted for 28 fatal shootings, while there have been 22 recorded in March so far.
